If You are Asking for Human Attention, Demonstrate Human Effort — Tom Bedor. There’s a bit of a blog post that goes with it, but the title really says it all.
Pairs nicely with Dave’s I don’t want a screenshot of your Claude conversation and Simon’s “I will not publish anything that takes someone else longer to read than it took me to write.”
The whole standard.site thing is a winding road that requires witchcraft and luck
Yeah I think it’ll take some time to settle. I was fighting with it too – I had a custom “announce” POSSE script for my blog, but it needed updating for the fancy embed to show up on Bluesky after a Sequoia integration.
That post was indeed published from our ATmosphere plugin. Your WP post has no title so it got treated as a short-form: truncated to 300 chars and just plain text, to fit Bluesky restrictions. That’s not ideal. I’ve filed an issue, we’ll work on it in the next few days:
github.com/Automattic/w…
I should note that posts that do have a title are currently treated differently by the plugin, they do look better on Bluesky. They include a link, with a proper post preview.
I think we should handle posts with more than 300 chars always as long form and always handle inline links for notes.
Sweet thanks. Maybe just the link is all that’s needed?
We want to offer the best reading experience possible, and I think that in some cases, that means rendering the whole thing in Bluesky right away so readers don’t have to click when they could be reading the whole thing right away in their app.
Obviously that wasn’t the case with your post though!
This was a very special case, that we simply have not thought about: A long form post without a headline :)
We fixed that already, by always checking the length of the post and the next version will also support inline links for short-form posts.
paraphrased this title in response to my boss linking a slop article so lets see if I keep my job
