Bad Ideas

Here’s one:

I don’t remember taking that photo or creating any of those materials, but I remember working on the idea.

I was working at a job where I worked from 6 PM – 6 AM three days a week. The absolute night shift. To stay somewhat sane, I switched my sleeping schedule entirely, during those 4 days I had off as well. So I was awake throughout the night all the time. I didn’t want it to feel weird though, I wanted to live a normal life. I wanted to grocery shop at 2 AM like someone else with a normal sleeping schedule grocery shopping at 2 PM.

In order to normalize that life, I need to know about all the businesses that were open hours that would accommodate it. So I figured I’d collect that information and make a website based on it. Somehow, I thought that businesses might want to pay me to be prominently listed on it.

So I asked them to pay me, apparently. As best as I can remember, none ever did.

I had no research to show that there was any need for this, from the people side or the business side. I had no special way of gathering information about when businesses were open, other than just driving by and writing it down or looking it up somewhere on the internet. All I had was a medium amount of hustle and the ability to make a website. I don’t think we need incredible world-changing ideas to be successful — mediocre ideas will do — but this was just a bad one.
