You Don’t Need To Collect an Address To Process Credit Cards With Stripe (But You Really Do)

If you use Stripe to process credit cards, and you don’t sell physical goods, you don’t need to collect an address. Pretty cool, because you can make checkout forms super tiny and quick to fill out. Easier forms = better conversion rates.

But if you ever need to leave Stripe, all the other major processors do require an address. You wouldn’t have it, so you couldn’t process the cards anymore, and you’d be really screwed. (Assuming you process monthly).

So you pretty much have to ask for address information. Still, good on Stripe for pushing this. Maybe other processors will stop requiring it and signup forms for web apps will shrink over time.
