Ruining Perfect

When I get new furniture I like to get some scratches and rips and stains on it right away.

When I get a new book I get some food stains on the cover the first time I open it. I also dog-ear the pages to mark my progress and bend the crap out of the spine.

I threw some gravel at my new truck to roughen it up a little bit.

Screw perfect. I know me and I know I won’t enjoy things if I’m worried about them being perfect all the time. I can look at a water stain on a table and remember when it happened and where we were. I like that.

I’m the same way with my iPod. I used to put invisible shields on it, one after another. After a while, I realized that it’s the scratches that makes it “mine”.

    Good stuff.

I agree. I feel I can’t fully appreciate certain items unless they’ve been ‘damaged’, otherwise I end up spending so much time and effort trying to protect it that I don’t end up enjoying the thing.

Lol – I was with you on the books and odd stain on furniture that brings back memories of that awesome party where your mate drank Whisky and Olive oil then spilt his wine on the table. I’m not so sure about throwing gravel at my new car though – that sounds a little too crazy! :D

Makes sense to me, that gives me an idea that they should sell these items nearly new, save us some money and we get exactly what we want! ah damn Ebay!!!
